AI document review you can trace
Consilena reads legal documents with you: it summarises a letter or policy, finds the clauses that answer your question, compares two versions and flags what changed. Each point links to the passage it came from, legal points cite the provision they rely on, and the work trace shows exactly what was read.
What document review covers
- Summaries of a document in plain English, with the passages behind each point.
- Finding the clauses that deal with a question, such as termination, liability or data.
- Comparing two versions of a document and restoring an earlier one.
- Checking a document against a provision, for example a policy against the GDPR article it implements.
For a single agreement reviewed against a position, see contract review. For many documents at once, see due diligence.
How it works
- Add the document to a matterWord and PDF files are read and kept with the matter's facts and outputs.
- Ask your questionIn plain language: what the document says, where, and what it means for your side.
- See every readThe trace lists what was read and searched, with times and cost.
- Open the passages and sourcesEach point links to its passage and, where a legal point is made, to the cited provision.
Questions to ask of a document
- Summarise this letter and list every deadline it sets.
- Which clauses deal with termination, and what notice does each require?
- What changed between version 1 and version 2 of this agreement?
- Where does this privacy notice describe retention, and does that match what GDPR Article 5 requires?
- Explain this indemnity in plain English for a non-lawyer.
Narrow questions give answers that are easier to check. Ask for the passage as well as the conclusion, and open it.
For lawyers and for businesses
Solicitors and in-house teams use document review for a fast, checkable first read. Founders and businesses use it to understand a document in plain English before paying for advice. When you need a person, you can ask for a lawyer: your file is handed over anonymised, and only once you consent and the firm accepts.
What happens to your documents
- Servers, databases, files and backups are hosted on AWS in Frankfurt, and stored files and the database are encrypted at rest.
- Questions go only to the AI model providers that answer them, which are US-based, with data collection denied.
- We do not sell personal data or train on your documents.
- Names, emails, phone numbers, IBANs and addresses are redacted automatically before any lawyer handover.
Limits
- It can misread a passage, especially in poor scans; check important points in the document itself.
- It can miss facts you did not give it.
- Output is not legal advice.
A summary is a convenience, not a substitute for reading the document where it matters. For anything you will act on, such as a deadline, a notice requirement or an admission, go to the passage the summary links to and read it in full, together with the clauses around it.
