AI legal drafting you stay in control of

Consilena drafts letters, agreements and memos from your templates and instructions. Mandatory clauses stay locked in place, edits to existing documents arrive as tracked changes, and every decision you make is saved as a new version. Drafts come out as Word files, so they go straight into your usual review.

What you can draft

  • Agreements and letters built from your templates, with mandatory clauses locked in place.
  • Memos that set out the research behind them, with numbered citations.
  • Markups of an existing document, as tracked changes in the Word file.
  • Revisions of a clause to a stated position, for example from the receiving party's side.

The drafts are a starting point. They can contain errors or omit terms your situation needs, so they are read and finished by a person.

How drafting works

  1. Choose a template or a documentStart from a template in the Library, or upload the document to revise.
  2. Give instructionsDescribe the parties, the position and the points to cover in plain language.
  3. Watch the drafting stepsThe trace shows what was read and searched before the draft was written.
  4. Review the changesEdits arrive as tracked changes. Accept or reject each one.
  5. Keep the historyEvery decision is saved as a version. Compare any two versions, and restore an earlier one if you need to.

In the recorded example on the home page, a Word NDA with four tracked changes is opened, the first change is accepted and saved as version 2, and three remain for review. The NDA is synthetic.

Pressure-test a draft

The Persona Panel lets you read a draft as a judge, opposing counsel, regulator or investor might. These are simulated views to surface weak points and open questions, not predictions of what any real person or court will do.

Writing instructions that draft well

A draft is only as good as the instructions behind it. Say who the parties are and which side you act for, the governing law, the commercial points already agreed and the points that must not move. Name the template if there is one, and say what the draft is for: a first offer, a reply to a markup or an internal note.

  • “Draft a mutual NDA from our template for a two-year term under the law of England and Wales; we are the disclosing party.”
  • “Reply to the counterparty's markup of clause 9: accept the cap, reject the carve-out for data breaches, and explain why in a cover note.”
  • “Turn this research memo into a two-page letter to the client in plain English, keeping the citations in footnotes.”

Matters keep the facts and documents of the work, so later instructions can build on earlier ones without repeating them.

Drafting in Microsoft Word

Consilena for Word (beta) brings the workspace into Microsoft Word, and its edits also arrive as tracked changes. Files go in and out as Word documents with tracked changes intact, and can also be exported as PDF.

What you still check

  • Read the whole draft, not only the changes.
  • Check every cited provision before it supports a statement in the draft.
  • Check defined terms, cross-references and dates.
  • Make sure the draft fits facts the tool was not told.

Frequently asked questions

Can AI draft legal documents?

Yes, as first drafts. Consilena drafts from your templates and instructions, keeps mandatory clauses locked, and puts edits into the Word file as tracked changes for you to accept or reject.

Will it change clauses I need to keep?

Mandatory clauses in templates are locked in place. For other text, every change is a tracked change you can reject, and the earlier version can be restored.

Does it work in Word?

Yes, through the Consilena for Word add-in (beta). Edits arrive as tracked changes.

Is a draft from Consilena ready to send?

No. Drafts can contain errors or miss terms your situation needs. A person reads and finishes every draft before it is used.
